Joe Welch, OT,
Certified Aging in Place Consultant

About: Welcome

Based on my own experience as a caregiver and a Home Health OT, I have a good idea of what it means to be a single caregiver, part of a caregiving team, and also a member of the "sandwich generation". My basic approach, as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and an Occupational Therapist, is first to help the older person in your life to identify their goals. From there, I work with the family to make and carry out a plan to meet those realistic objectives. I expect "surprises"  and road blocks while we consider what type of physical changes will need to be made. Fortunately, my strong background, both in problem-solving and renovation work, will see you through the process. You actually may enjoy this journey!

A note to your family member or loved one:

How to start the conversation with your loved ones about their preferences and wishes.

You have lived your life based on, for the most part, decisions you have made. As you become older, it is reasonable that you continue to decide for yourself what is best for you in your home.

Just as you contacted, hired, or otherwise engaged others to help you to make decisions when you were younger, now is a good time to call on the experience and skills of someone to help you to continue being independent in your home. A Certified Aging in Place Consultant could well be the one to call upon!
